Information

Uncommon resident and disperser in all seasons. Breeds locally in small numbers near waterside habitats. An eastern Asian element of the fauna, penetrating into the Western Palearctic via the Gulf and Tigris-Euphrates valley.
Where in Kuwait
The only reliable sites for this species is in the north around the Abdaly Farms, but it has been occasionally recorded on more southern farmlands and in the Jahra area.
In the world
It has a wide distribution throughout Asia, stretching from Turkey in the west to Thailand in the east but the population trend is difficult to determine because of uncertainty over the extent of threats. The male and female are similar in appearance and are noisy birds which utters its loud cry both during flight and when on the ground.
Local threats
Indiscriminate shooting and habitat loss.
