Extremely rare vagrant. Has declined throughout its sporadic Asian and Mediterranean range. Many populations have become extirpated, primarily due to habitat loss and hunting. Recently populations have been confirmed breeding in the Basra marshes of southern Iraq.
Where in Kuwait
Only 4 records for Kuwait and all on fresh water pools in Jahra, Sabah Al Ahmad Natural Reserve and Sabah Al Salem with the last sighting reported in 2007.
In the world
Breeds rarely and locally in Europe in well-vegetated fresh water. Lives much as a dabbling duck, but shows some affinity to the smaller diving ducks.
Shooting is a threat for Geese and Ducks during passage migration.
