Recordings
Information
Uncommon resident; breeds in Kuwait. Non-indigenous to Kuwait and first recorded in the country in 1981. It has since spread to various urban and agricultural areas maintaining small local naturalized populations.
Where in Kuwait
Not as common as White-eared Bulbul and most frequently seen on Green Island along the coast, but also recorded occasionally in urban areas with mature habitat
In the world
It has an extremely large range with a population that is estimated to be increasing following a recorded range expansion owing to the spread of irrigation, despite the potentially negative effects of trapping pressure. The aggressive nature and fruit-eating habits of this species, have unfortunately resulted in it being considered one of the world’s worst invasive alien species in areas where it has been introduced. It eats mostly soft fruits, berries, seeds and nectar.
Local threats
Trapping for illegal bird trade and loss of habitat
