Information
Uncommon passage migrant. A strikingly coloured nightingale-like bird, it is a unique Middle Eastern specialty. Usually observed in thickets or near bushes and trees on migration throughout most of Kuwait.
Where in Kuwait
On passage it is found in desert areas where there is acacia woodland, savannah and scrub near the coast and as far west as Al Abraq. It is a small, unobtrusive yet boldly marked bird that is rarely seen due to its shy nature
In the world
It has an extremely large range and a population that is suspected to be stable in the absence of evidence for any declines or substantial threats. It is a migratory insectivorous species breeding in south west Asia from Turkey to Afghanistan and wintering in east Africa and is a very rare vagrant to Europe. This species is so named because of the white throat of the male
Local threats
Habitat loss and degradation and indiscriminate shooting
