Scarce disperser in spring and autumn. A large woodland bird attracted to oases and farmland. Sometimes seen in small flocks; up to 48 recorded in late October 2007.

Primarily found in agricultural and farmlands, but has been recorded at inland pools in the Jahra area
In the world
It has an extremely large range with an increasing population and has a wide distribution across the western Palearctic. It occurs throughout most of Europe, reaching as far north as central Scandinavia, east to Russia, and south to North Africa and the Middle East. The Madeiran subspecies maderensis went extinct in the early 20th century. It is the largest and most common of Britain's doves and pigeons.
