Information
Scarce passage migrant. The smallest eagle in the region, it is the size of a Steppe Buzzard. It occurs in two main colour forms (pale and dark) that are almost identical above but differ in the shading of the underparts. Will migrate singly or in small groups; up to seven have been observed together on passage in the autumn.
Where in Kuwait
It is found in a wide range of habitats from woodland and plantations to grassland and desert and in Kuwait in desert areas with suitable habitat as well as agricultural farmlands.
In the world
This species has an extremely large range although it is declining; for a number of reasons. The seasonal movements of this species are highly complex with European populations overwintering as far south as southern Africa, whist other populations appear to remain in the same area year round.
Local threats
Indiscriminate shooting.
