Rare winter visitor. As with the Chaffinch this northern bird has an irregular occurrence in Kuwait, but when it does occur it may be in small flocks; up to 15 in late November 1988.
Where in Kuwait
On passage it it is mainly found in areas of deciduous trees, including along the edges of agricultural fields and weedy stubble fields, but is seldom seen in Kuwait
In the world
It has an extremely large range and in Europe, trends since 1980 show that populations have undergone a moderate decline. It is widespread throughout the forests of northern Europe and Asia. It is almost entirely migratory, wintering in southern Europe, north Africa, Middle East, north India, northern Pakistan, China and Japan. It displays marked sexual dimorphism, the female Brambling being similar to the non-breeding male.
