Scarce passage migrant. A Middle Eastern specialty with a remarkably restricted range. It is related to Red-tailed Wheatear, both were formerly considered races within one species. Often seen singly or in very small groups.
Where in Kuwait
Its preferred habitat is open hillsides and scrubby, semi-desert regions and most records are from the south of the country near Khiran
In the world
It has an extremely large range with a population that is suspected to be stable in the absence of evidence for any declines or substantial threats. The breeding range of this species covers the Middle East, south-east Turkey, northern Iraq, western Iran, parts of the former USSR and south east Asia. It moves southwards in winter to southern Iran, the Arabian Peninsula. The Red-tailed Wheatear (O. chrysopygia) was formerly considered a subspecies of this bird but is now often regarded as a separate species
