In the world
It has an extremely large range and a population that is suspected to be in decline owing to ongoing habitat destruction and reduction in cultivation of cereal crops. It breeds across Europe and much of Asia. In Europe and Asia most birds are resident, but some far northern birds migrate south in winter.
Local threats
Indiscriminate shooting and loss of habitat.
