Information
Uncommon passage migrant; rare summer visitor. A Mediterranean bird and the second largest of our Sylvia warblers with a melodic song recalling that of a Nightingale. On migration, attracted to clumps of trees in plantations or oases.
Where in Kuwait
It favours open or semi-open habitat with variable bushy cover and is more frequently recorded in the west at Al Abraq
In the world
It has an extremely large range and a population that is suspected to be in decline owing to ongoing habitat destruction and degradation. It is Europe's second largest warbler and has a breeding range which extends from Spain through to Turkey. It migrates south for winter, to sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian subcontinent. Some taxonomists consider both subspecies Orphean Warblers to be distinct enough to separate them into species.
