Information
Rare passage migrant. Nominate race of Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus scirpaceus); more common further west. Almost impossible to distinguish in the field from the local race, Caspian Reed Warbler.
Where in Kuwait
As its common name implies, it primarily breeds in mature reed beds along the edges of brackish pools and outfalls in the Jahra area. But it may be encountered in other vegetation in drier habitats
In the world
It has an extremely large range but with populations that are undergoing a moderate decline. It breeds from western Europe across to western Russia, the Caspian area, Iran, southeast Kazakhstan and extreme northwest China, and travels to sub-Saharan Africa before the onset of winter. In Europe it is a common victim of the European cuckoo, a brood parasite.
