Extremely rare vagrant. An Eastern Palearctic species rarely travelling to the north end of the Gulf. Kuwait’s first birds were recorded in early October 2004 and on several dates from October 2007 to mid April 2008.

In the world
It has an extremely large range and the trend direction for this population is difficult to determine owing to evidence of both regional increases and decreases, perhaps caused by climatic changes and habitat destruction. They are found widely distributed across Asia and there are variations in plumage across the range. It sometimes indulges in kleptoparasitism and takes prey from other birds. It also captures flying insects in the air. They sometimes impale prey on a thorny bush after feeding just on the head or brain
