Information

Uncommon passage migrant; rare winter visitor. Passes through Kuwait in fairly large numbers primarily in spring; often flocks of over 200 have been recorded. Care is sometimes needed to distinguish this species from Pallid Swift.
Where in Kuwait
These are normally seen in small flocks passing by overhead on passage, but they may also be in mixed flocks with other Hirundine species
In the world
It has an extremely large range but with a declining population due to a reduction in the availability of food and nesting sites. Its range includes much of Europe, Asia and Africa. A migratory species, it breeds at northern latitudes and travels to sub-Saharan Africa before the onset of the northern winter. The most aerial of birds, it spends up to nine months aloft outside the breeding season. A gregarious species, this species forages in large flocks for a variety of small flying insects. These feeding groups may be frequently heard ‘screaming’
Local threats
Indiscriminate shooting, often just as target practice and pesticide
