Information
Uncommon passage migrant. A strictly nocturnal bird that rests during the day on trees or in leaf litter on the ground in perfect camouflage. It hunts insects during the night in a hawk-like flight.
Where in Kuwait
During the day it is out of site generally roosting lengthwise on branches of trees, but at night it will feed over a range of habitats such as wetlands and farmlands. It has been recorded as far west as Al Abraq. It is a A crepuscular bird that is an agile flier due to its long wings and tail.
In the world
It has an extremely large range and a declining population due to habitat loss and destruction and use of pesticide which reduces the availability of food. It is at the western extreme of its breeding range in the UK, which extends to China and Mongolia in the east, southern Scandinavia in the north and south to North Africa. It is a summer visitor to the UK, and winters in Africa.
