Uncommon resident, breeds in Kuwait. Found in Jal Az-Zor escarpment, where it breeds in very small numbers. This bird also breeds in rocky desert areas in rock crevices often near cliffs. Unlike other owls, it may often be active by day. In Kuwait it feeds on insects, birds, reptiles and rodents.
Where in Kuwait
This is a species that is semi-open habitats and desert. Typically it is found in wadi's and along Jal Al Zor escarpment. There are thirteen recognised subspecies of this species which differ in size and colouration and Athene noctua lilith is the pale sub-species that is found in Kuwait
In the world
It has an extremely large range with a stable population and it occurs in a broad band extending from western Europe and north-west Africa east to Mongolia, China and Vietnam. The southern limits of this species’ range extend as far as The Arabian Peninsula and the horn of Africa, while its northern limits extend as far as Latvia. One of the most diurnal species of owl, in some parts of its range the little owl often hunts during the day
