Information
Scarce resident and disperser in spring and autumn. Localized breeder in some farms and towns. Although a common cage bird, this species exists in Southwest Arabia and is expanding its range. Kuwait’s birds are most probably of captive origin.
Where in Kuwait
Most records are of single birds that are more wary of people than the more common Eurasian Collared Dove, so care should be taken when trying to identify this species which has a white vent, rather than the grey of the Eurasian Collared Dove
In the world
It has an extremely large range with an unquantified population that is suspected to be stable. The African Collared Dove is the species thought to be the wild ancestor of the domestic Barbary Dove, though some suggest the Eurasian Collared Dove (Streptopelia decaocto) may also have been involved.
