Information
Very common passage migrant, common winter and summer visitor. Up to 2000 recorded in Kuwait Bay in early April 2008. One of the most abundant small waders of the Western Palearctic.
Where in Kuwait
It is found most in coastal habitats in Kuwait as well as inland pools in the Jahra area
In the world
It has an extremely large range with a decreasing population and is a full long-distance migrant that migrates overland on a broad front or by utilising a great many routes across much of the Western Palearctic. It is also nomadic in parts of its wintering range (e.g. southern Africa), moving as habitats flood or are overgrown. It is gregarious in winter, sometimes forming large flocks with other Calidris waders, particularly Dunlin, on coastal mudflats or the edges of inland pools
Local threats
Habitat loss and degradation and oil pollution
