Information
Common passage migrant, rare winter visitor and scarce summer visitor. One of the most abundant and widespread Palearctic breeding Tringa sandpipers, usually preferring inland waters, often on farmland puddles and small wetlands. Highest daily count of 482 recorded in early May 2005.
Where in Kuwait
More commonly found in and around saline and freshwater pools wherever this habitat is found in Kuwait. It rarely occurs in coastal habitats, but may be found around salt-marshes. They forage by probing in shallow water or on wet mud, and mainly eat insects and similar small prey.
In the world
It has an extremely large range with a stable population and is a full migrant, travelling overland on a broad front across Europe and the Middle East. It breeds in subarctic wetlands from the Scottish Highlands across Europe and Asia and migrates to Africa, Southern Asia, particularly India, and Australia.
