Information
Uncommon passage migrant and winter visitor in small numbers. Usually frequents inland freshwater wetlands, even very small ones, outside the breeding season. Southward autumn migration for this and some other Tringa species begins very early, in early July.
Where in Kuwait
Outside of the breeding season this species shows a preference for a wider variety of inland freshwater habitats such as marshes, sewage outfalls and small ponds wherever these habitats are found in Kuwait. In flight it has a characteristic three-note whistle, which is very easy to identify.
In the world
It has an extremely large range with a stable population and is fully migratory and moves overland on a broad front with European populations making well-documented stop-overs in Saharan oases. It will congregate in small groups of up to 50 birds while on migration and is also very rarely found in inter-tidal areas.
Local threats
Loss of habitat and water pollution.
