Where in Kuwait
During migration and on its wintering grounds this species frequents a variety of freshwater and brackish wetlands such as sewage outfalls, irrigated farmlands and it is in these locations where this species is seen in singly or small numbers.
In the world
It has an extremely large range with a stable population and is a full migrant that breeds in the subarctic and arctic zone. On passage to its wintering grounds the majority of the species travels overland on a broad front, although there is also an important route down the west coast of Europe. In breeding plumage it is distinctive in that it is almost completely black with a red bill.
Local threats
Habitat loss in its wintering range and on migration staging areas.
