Rare winter visitor, usually recorded in very small numbers in plantations and farmland in Kuwait. This is a woodland bird and its variable southerly movements are often provoked by severe winter weather.
Where in Kuwait
A skulking and cryptic species that is not easily seen, but found in areas with mature trees where there is leaf litter for it to hide and sustain its dietary requirements. They are crepuscular (most active at dawn and dusk) and rarely active during the day, unless flushed.
In the world
It has an extremely large range and a stable population and is strongly migratory with the autumn migration to the wintering grounds is largely governed by the timing of the first winter frosts. Its diet consists predominantly of earthworms, especially during the non-breeding season but may also take adult and larval insects (e.g. beetles, earwigs and millipedes), spiders, slugs, leaches and plant material such as seeds, fruit, agricultural grain (e.g. oats and maize), and grass roots and leaves. They are usually solitary and migrate. singly.
