Information
Extremely rare vagrant on passage and in winter. A slender desert-adapted falcon; often difficult to distinguish from the Peregrine. Although it is smaller than the Peregrine it also exhibits dazzling aerial mastery and speed.
Where in Kuwait
Only 4 records for Kuwait and predominantly from desert areas.
In the world
It has a large dispersed range occurring from the Canary Islands, eastwards across parts of North Africa, and through the Arabian Peninsula to Iraq and possibly western Iran. Limited information has been published on this species, but like the Peregrine, this raptor feeds chiefly on birds, which it normally takes in mid-flight and often at high speed.
Local threats
Trapping for falconry and the falconry trade.
