Information
Uncommon passage migrant. Often hunts small birds, insects, and even bats, over wetlands and tree-stands. Will often hunt at dawn and dusk, its slim silhouette often resembling a huge swift. While on migration, it may move in small groups.
Where in Kuwait
This species is fairly widespread in Spring and Autumn migration, but is seen only in small numbers.
In the world
There are two sub-species that occur across Africa, Europe and Asia. Subspecies Falco subbuteo subbuteo is found in northwest Africa and Europe, east through central Asia and northern China and as far as Kamchatka and Japan and this sub-species is migratory, wintering in central and southern Africa and southern Asia, whilst the other Falco subbuteo streichi is sedentary.
